Now what do we have here?

Don't tell my other pages, but this is my favorite page because it is the most intellectually stimulating. It's all fine and dandy for me to attempt to explain, in my American way, what toska is...but it's another to realize the significance of this word, not only in recognizing the depth of it's meaning and this history of the word itself, but in understanding the impact of that word and how toska embodies something so essentially Russian...

Why does Russian have toska and English have guilt? What are the differences in frequency usage of toska vs it's English counterparts? Why does the Russian language have such a descriptive and developed vocabulary? How do we translate concepts that don't exist? In essence, this page is dedicated to explaining to you why toska matters. Yes, it's intrinsically cool (at least to me) but often things that have intrinsic value also have instrumental value. All these texts rely on language to communicate their purposes. It is also important to note that (almost) all of these resources are about linguistics and culture.
